Antisemitism, Past and Present
On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the AJC Transatlantic Institute, the Mission of Israel to the EU and NATO, the German Mission to the EU, B’nai B’rith International, the European Office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the Central Welfare Board of Jews in Germany (ZWST), as well as Members of European Parliament Helga Trüpel, Heinz K. Becker and Terry Reintke co-organized an event entitled "Antisemitism, Past and Present."
Hosted by the House of European History, distinguished keynote speakers included H.E. Aharon Leshno-Yaar, Ambassador of Israel to the EU and NATO, H.E. Michael Clauss, Permanent Representative of Germany to the EU, and Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, former President of the European Parliament and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the House of European History.
Katharina von Schnurbein, EU Commission Coordinator on Combating anti-Semitism, delivered remarks on behalf of First Vice President of the Commission Frans Timmermans underlining the EU's commitment to combating anti-Jewish hatred in Europe. Heinz K. Becker, Member of the European Parliament from Austria, praised the EU Council's first-ever declaration on anti-Semitism, which included an endorsement of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Anti-Semitism.
Moderated by Laura Cazes, ZWST Project Coordinator, the ensuing panel discussion featured New York Times Bestselling Author Deborah Feldman and publicist and author Richard C. Schneider.
At the reception, guests were able to view an exhibit of anti-Semitic propaganda collected by Holocaust survivor Arthur Langermann.
