AJC Honors UN Special Rapporteur Ahmed Shaheed for Leading UN Action on Combating Global Antisemitism

Dr. Ahmed Shaheed, former UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, received AJC’s prestigious Jan Karski Award, named after the renowned Polish diplomat who sought to focus world attention on the Nazi Final Solution against the Jewish people. “This is an award that belongs to very few living people who can match the standards of Jan Karski. You are one of them,” said AJC CEO David Harris, who knew Karski well during the last 15 years of his life.

Large AJC Delegation, on Weeklong Arabian Gulf Visit, Marks Abraham Accords Anniversary and Opening of AJC Abu Dhabi Office

Over the past two years, the world has witnessed growing bilateral ties, advancing and yielding tangible benefits from Arab-Israel peace. To celebrate the second anniversary of the Abraham Accords and the official opening earlier this year of AJC Abu Dhabi, a delegation of 80 AJC leaders from across the United States traveled this month to the UAE and were joined by Emirati government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, and members of the local Jewish community.

AJC, Lufthansa Announce Joint Initiative to Combat Global Antisemitism

After Orthodox Jewish passengers were barred from a flight this past May, German airline Lufthansa has turned to AJC to train its employees to identify and respond to antisemitism. AJC strongly criticized the incident at the time. At AJC’s urging, the airline has since endorsed the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism.

AJC Warmly Welcomes the Renewed EU-Israel Association Council After 10 Years

Following a Foreign Affairs Council between the 27 member states, the EU's decision to finally relaunch the Association Council with Israel, meant to ensure continuous political dialogue and deepen bilateral ties, was long overdue after a ten-year break. AJC has long urged governments and diplomats to resume the high-level ministerial talks that were last held in 2012 and had not been reconvened since due to the opposition of certain countries.

AJC Hails Saudi Decision to Open Air Space to Israeli Flights

“In the spirit of the historic Abraham Accords, today’s Saudi announcement is a significant example of normalization that will further advance the promise and reality of Arab-Israeli peace,” said AJC CEO David Harris. The announcement came as President Biden ended his visit to Israel and flew directly to Jeddah for meetings with Saudi and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) leaders. As Biden noted, “Saudi Arabia’s historic decision to open its airspace for all civilian planes, including those flying to and from Israel, is an important step towards building a more integrated and stable Middle East region.”

AJC Joins Historic Multi-Faith Gathering in Saudi Arabia

AJC Director of International Interreligious Affairs Rabbi David Rosen spoke at a historic multi-faith gathering with religious representatives in Saudi Arabia last month. Marking a monumental shift in regional interfaith relations and a positive transformation of Muslim-Jewish relations around the globe, Rabbi Rosen was the only Israeli at the assembly.

AJC Surveys French Jewish, Muslim, and General Populations’ Perspectives on Antisemitism

As the COVID-19 pandemic has breathed new life into centuries-old antisemitic conspiracy theories, AJC Paris released a historic poll on the state of antisemitism in France. Exceptional by its size, the survey includes the perceptions of respondents of both Muslim and Jewish faith and culture, as well as an overall sample representing the French population as a whole according to various criteria. The poll reveals widespread concern about rising antisemitism, with 74% of French Jews saying they have been victims of acts of Jew-hatred at least once in their lifetime.
