TAI and Partners Organize Annual International Holocaust Remembrance Day Event

To commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, TAI, the Mission of Israel to the EU and NATO and the European Office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation coorganized an event titled “Remembering the Past while Creating a Better Future”.

The event was attended by almost 100 EU officials, Members of the European Parliament, diplomats and civil society representatives. It featured opening remarks by H.E. Haim Regev, Ambassador of Israel to the EU and NATO, and Beatrice Gorawantschy, Director of the European Office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, in which they addressed the urgent need to commemorate the past in times of spiking antisemitism in Europe. MEP Antonio López-Istúriz White delivered a powerful speech, reaffirming the European Parliament’s unwavering commitment to fighting antisemitism.

Closing the first part of the conference, TAI Director Daniel Schwammenthal warned of the dangerous resurgence of antisemitism in Europe, particularly in connection with the ongoing Israeli war against Hamas terrorists. His direct and urgent appeal deeply resonated with the high-level audience, reinforcing the critical need for action.

The event closed with a moving panel discussion between Hiba Suatirie-Tareef, Political Counsellor at the Israeli Mission to the EU, and Belgian Senator Patricia Teitelbaum. Teitelbaum recounted her mother’s story of surviving the Holocaust as a hidden child in Belgium, as well as her own experience with antisemitism in Belgium since October 7.
