We, the undersigned members of the Transatlantic Friends of Israel (TFI)  – an interparliamentary group representing the full breadth of the political spectrum – call on the United States, Europe, and our allies to take urgent action to deter Iran’s nuclear ambitions, advanced missile program, proxy armies, and support for terror.

The Iranian regime – in concert with Russia, China, and North Korea – continues to undermine international stability. This dangerous alliance not only supports Iran’s direct and proxy-driven attacks on our ally Israel, but also fuels Russia’s brutal war in Ukraine through the provision of drones and other military support.

We urge a robust, unified transatlantic strategy to address the full scope of Iran’s malign actions, including its nuclear ambitions, which will be unconstrained once the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action‘s (JCPOA) sanctions snapback mechanism expires this October. Efforts must focus on permanently blocking every path Iran may pursue to a nuclear weapon, while also confronting the broader threats posed by Tehran to regional and global security.

The United States, Europe, together with aligned nations, must ensure that Iran is unequivocally denied all pathways to a nuclear weapon, and must immediately secure the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) access to, and monitoring of, declared and suspected nuclear sites in Iran.

We urge the E3 (France, Germany, and the United Kingdom) to swiftly trigger snapback sanctions under the JCPOA to hold Iran accountable for its nuclear provocations. This mechanism must be activated well in advance of its expiration in October 2025 to ensure maximum diplomatic and strategic impact. Europe’s leadership is essential.

The European Union should expeditiously designate both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the entirety of Hezbollah as terrorist organizations, aligning its policy with that of the United States and other Western partners, and reflecting the gravity of Iran’s actions.

We urge the United States to further strengthen and communicate its credible military deterrence against Iran’s threats, ensuring its regional aggression is met with firm and swift consequences. Additionally, we support vital U.S.-led efforts to integrate Israel into the regional defense architecture, fostering deeper military cooperation among responsible actors in the Middle East. Furthermore, full enforcement of oil, missile, and arms transfer sanctions should be the beginning but not the end of concerted steps to deter and punish Iranian violations of international law.

The transatlantic community must act quickly and decisively. Failing to confront Iran’s escalating threats will embolden its extremist leadership, empower its allies in Moscow and beyond, and undermine global security and stability.
